WBGU = WBGU 88.1 FM Punk Department (Kyle)
M = Agent M
G = Gabe

WBGU: Hey this is Kyle and I’m here at Howard’s in Bowling Green with Tsunami Bomb right now, if you guys could just state your name and what you play.

M: My name is Agent M and I sing.

G: My name is Gabe and I play the drums.

WBGU: Alright first off, I have a question, is there any chance in you revealing your real name?

M: No (laughs) sorry.

WBGU: Always worth a shot, alright next question, you guys, on your website said you had 500 purple vinyl of the mayhem on the high seas and they are going out on ebay because it’s been out of print for a while, for a whole lot of money, what’s the most amount of money you’ve seen that go for?

M: I think like $300

WBGU: Does that make you guys feel pretty good that people are willing to pay $300 for some of your merchandise?

M: I think it’s pretty rad.

G: Yeah, it’s pretty exciting.

WBGU: Alright cool, for you Agent M, almost all punk bands are completely male dominated, does that make it a lot different for you being a female in the scene, in a band and everything?

M: Yeah, I mean, I don’t really know, because I’ve always been a female, so you know its hard for me to know what its like for a male in the scene, I think the main difference is our reviews that people do of us, they often compare us to other girl fronted bands that we don’t sound anything like at all, that’s the main thing I can think of.

WBGU: Does that kind of bother you? Do you feel like they’re not comparing you well enough to other bands within the scene or what?

M: Yeah, I think we are kind of getting short changed, not that the bands that they are comparing us to are bad, but just like, they compare us to like Save Ferris, and I think we don’t sound anything like them at all. We don’t have horn players. We don’t sound like swing or ska, and it just isn’t the same. The only thing we have in common is that we both have female vocalists. I think it’s just kind of lame for people to jump to conclusions like that.

WBGU: Alright cool, also do you, this is just for you… well you too, but do you have any secret admirers and fans that are completely in love with you?

M: I think Gabe has more than I do.

WBGU: Oh really?

G: That’s an absolute lie first off, I have a few secret admirers you know. They aren’t really secret.

WBGU: Yeah, not necessarily secret but just people who get really obsessed with you

G: People who get really obsessed and won’t stop calling, like Christina Aguleria for one. She wont stop calling, and I’m like Christina listen, I got a girlfriend, I can’t be talking dirty to you right now you know, whatever; and Pink, Pink is cool, she kind of backed off after I told her what was going on, and that’s about it for me.

WBGU: Also this is a radio interview, I have to point out that Agent M here is amazingly beautiful, and you do get a lot of people who get obsessed with you and stuff like that, does that ever make you guys jealous in the band then? That she gets so much more attention than you?

G: No no no no, not at all

M: They want guys to be coming and telling them that they are beautiful to.

G: That may be true, but we’re not jealous. It’s like, we are a pretty close knit group. We are like family. We view M as like, she’s like a sister, were happy for her and she handles it really well. It’s not like she is ever out like flaunting it like “Look at me I can have any guy I want.” It’s not like that at all. She is pretty down to earth, and it doesn’t seem to affect her.

WBGU: Alright great, now also with popular music today, what do you say are the good and bad things of it?

G: I think one good thing: there are a few bands that have come from other places other than the mainstream that have made it into the mainstream, that have opened up the door for a lot of other bands that haven’t made it there yet. So I think that’s really great, it’s opened up a lot of people’s ears who normally listen to a bunch of bands just because they aren’t on the radio, but then they hear a band like New Found Glory and that kinda, and they like that, so they are bound to like a lot of the things on Drive-Thru and you know, smaller bands that haven’t had that good of a chance.

WBGU: Now how bout, also like, our radio station we are dedicated to a lot of underground music, so what do think is good about underground music that you’re not going to get in commercial music

M: I think it’s really awesome. College radio is such a cool concept. It allows the non-commercial bands to be heard. We’ve gotten played on commercial radio a couple times, but I think our main thing is definitely college radio where you get to hear bands like Hot Rod Circuit, and Hot Water Music, and other really good bands that don’t stand a chance on mainstream. It’s really awesome.

WBGU: Alright now, if you guys could describe right now what a perfect show would be: city and other bands that you would be playing with.

M & G: City?

WBGU: Besides Bowling Green.

M: How about a suburb of Bowling Green?

G: That makes it tough.

M: Well it would be rad if it were in Pedaluma. That’s our home town.

G: Pedaluma: It’s where the band is based out of. The shows there are always really special…

M: Off the hook

G: Yeah, off the hiz-ook

M: So okay, we’re having it in Pedaluma, how many bands do we get? Like a normal bill?

WBGU: Normal show

M: So like four bands including us?

WBGU: Yeah, don’t be real strict here.

M: Well, definitely Alkaline Trio,

G: Alkaline trio would be one.

M: How about Hot Water Music?

G: Hot Water Music for sure, as well as Hot Rod Circuit

M: Okay so we are opening on the show.

G: Yeah

M: So we’re opening, and then Hot Rod Circuit, Hot Water Music, and Alkaline Trio? Actually I don’t know if it would go that way or not but sounds good to me.

G: I think that would be really great.

WBGU: Right now also with your guys latest release, how would you compare that album to stuff you have released in the past?

M: It’s a world of difference definitely, all of our previous stuff was done really quickly; we didn’t have any pre-production. We didn’t really have much production on it at all, and then our most recent album we spent all this time in pre-production working on the songs and we spent I think 3 weeks in the studio, and it was intense and crazy and—

G: Hard

M: Hard and really tiring and yeah, it was like being in the army almost, at least for me. So yeah. But as far as recordings go, I like the songs, but the old stuff is pretty old.

WBGU: What would be your favorite song on the new album, each of you?

M: I really like “Summing through Molasses”. It’s like the last track on the album.

G: I really like “Russian Roulette” I think. I think that’s probably my favorite song on the album.

WBGU: And I know it’s pretty early, but one last thing, are you guys working on anything else coming up as far as albums go?

M: Yeah, we are just starting work on our next album.

WBGU: Any insight to that at all?

M: Not really yet, we just started. We just got some music down. We’re just getting started to have writing practices.

WBGU: Well that’s all I have for you guys right now, is there anything else you guys want to add?

M: Hmmm, I don’t think so… Gabe?

G: I don’t think so.

WBGU: Oh I have one last question this is more for myself, what;s the best interview question you have ever been asked?

M: Oh you know what I liked? “Which do you think is funnier, monkeys or robots?

WBGU: I’ll be sure to use that in the future. Alright thanks a lot.

G: Yeah thank you

M: Thank you
